I have been away for awhile because I had surgery on my shoulder. I am right-handed and had surgery on my right shoulder making it difficult to do most things, including my hair.
I am glad that I decided to get my hair braided prior to my surgery, it definitely was the best decision. While I am no longer required to wear a sling, my scapula (muscle near shoulder blade) is very weak and I can't get my arm all the way up to my head. And unfortunately, my family is not the best at putting my hair up. I hate to think what I would look like if I left my curls out and had to have them help me wash it. OMG! lol
For any natural that may be having a similar procedure, or even a procedure where you will be out of commission for awhile, I highly recommend getting your hair braided. The flexibility and ease; especially with weekly physical therapy has made my recover less cumbersome. Last year I had hernia surgery and braided my hair as well. As I spent a great deal of time preparing, this was by far the best thing I could have done.
I do miss my curls but I just see it as giving my hair a little vacation!!! I do still wash and condition my hair but I never would have been able to do a braid-out with one hand~!!!
